Individual Credit Union Initiatives
It is no surprise to anyone that knows credit unions that they are very generous organizations with very generous people. A number of credit unions that have embraced an active role in fundraising for charitable causes have been kind enough to include the Credit Union Community Hope Initiative and through it the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless in their good works. These contributions came in addition to Annual Appeal contributions and participation in the League Charity Golf Tournament.
One of the best aspects of the individual fundrasing efforts is the range and variety of them. Check out some of the outstanding fundraising ideas that your credit union peers have put to work.
Hanscom Federal Credit Union
During 2012 Hanscom Federal Credit Union once again undertook two major fundraising efforts to raise money for the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. In the fall, the credit union raffled off a $10,000 credit union VISA gift card. They promoted the raffle to their members on their website, in their newsletter, and at their branches. The raffle netted $13,750 for the Massachusetts Coaltion for the Homeless. Immediately on the heels of this success, the credit union was ready for their annual employee raffle along with matching contributions approved by the credit union board and a couple of other miscellaneous holiday fundraisers that brought in another $10,500.
RTN Federal Credit Union
Before MAFCU Federal Credit Union joined forces with RTN Federal Credit Union, the credit union put together a fundraiser called "Walk Home" which was first conducted in 2011. The second annual 'Walk Home' took place on June 9, 2012 in Dorchester Park in Dorchester Lower Mills. This five kilometer walk around Dorchester Park brought out a large contingent of credit union members and supporters who raised $15,896 for the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. The walkers were each expected to raise at least $200 and the credit union did a tremendous job finding sponsors, many of whom purchased "directional" signs which marked the path and demonstrated their support for the cause. RTN Federal Credit Union will sponsor the third annual 'Walk Home' 5K walk.
